The Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), Ports and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Chapter, has taken a proactive approach to combating the rising threat of breast cancer by launching an awareness campaign. As part of activities marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month, COWA PTML organized a sensitization program at the PTML Command to educate women on the dangers of breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
In his remarks, “The Customs Area Controller, CAC, PTML, Comptroller Joe Anani, said, “The program is a clarion call for women to take their health seriously through regular medical checkups and members of COWA to learn from the campaign and apply the lessons to their daily lives as early detection is key to saving lives.”

In her remarks, the Customs Area Controller, CAC, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Comptroller Joy Edelduok, commended the PTML Command for the initiative, stressing the need for frequent medical checkups to prevent late detection.

Her words: “A healthy wife is a valuable wife, and a valuable wife is the one who gives her husband peace.” she added, “This statement underscores the importance of prioritizing one’s health and well-being, not just for personal benefit but also for the sake of loved ones.”
COWA PTML Chairperson, Mrs. Caroline Anani, applauded the National President of COWA, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, for her leadership and continued support to the women of the PTML Command. She highlighted that cancer remains a life-threatening disease that has affected millions globally, stressing that early detection and preventive habits could significantly reduce its impact. “Cancer can be prevented through a balanced diet, regular exercise, avoiding tobacco, and reducing alcohol intake,” she said, adding that “continuous awareness and open discussions about early detection with family and peers will help nip cancer in the bud.”
Mrs. Anani further advocated for policies that ensure cancer treatment is accessible and affordable for all, revealing that a free cancer screening exercise will be conducted for women of the PTML Command throughout October. “A sound health is the backbone of a happy life,” she maintained. This initiative demonstrates COWA PTML’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of its members and the broader community.
This year’s global theme for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters,” underscores the need for compassion, equitable access to care, and recognition of the diverse experiences of those affected by breast cancer worldwide. By championing breast cancer awareness and promoting early detection, COWA PTML is making a positive impact in the lives of women and families.
