CUSTOMS MMIA IMPOUNDS FOREIGN CURRENCY WORTH 29,000 Dollars… As the Command handed Over Suspect To EFCC

In accordance with the renewed hope policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, hinged on the tripod  stand of Consolidation, Collaboration and Innovation as a veritable tool to suppress smuggling activities, boost revenue generation and create robust trade facilitation, the Nigeria Customs Service, Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos has impounded an undeclared twenty nine thousand dollars on  8th July 2025, from  a departing passenger on Emirates Airline to Dubai; at the AML/CFT currency declaration desk and was profiled for declaration. The suspect orally declared a sum of six thousand US dollars. This declaration prompted a search, and the sum of twenty-nine thousand US dollars ($29,000.00) was found in his possession.

This information was disclosed by the Customs Public Relations Officer, Abdul Usman, and made available to GLOBAL RAYS Media.

In his remarks, the Customs Area Controller, CAC, Compt Effiong Harrison, said, ” The seizure was achieved through due diligence and intelligent gatherings with officers and men on red alert at  the airport to adhere and enforce strictly the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs. ”

Compt. Harrison, warned, ” The Command will not condone  any action or inactions capable to undermine the policy thrust of the CGC.”

Adding, ” With the CGC emergence as Chairman council of World Customs Organization, we at the Airport command are first port of call for international transactions and movements so we must uphold the tenets and values of the Nigeria Customs Service in tandem with the Customs boss vision and mission. ”

However, the suspect  International Passport, and the currency were handed over to EFCC for further investigation and necessary action in line with the extant laws and standards of operation.
