In line with the tripod policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi MFR. anchored on Consolidation, Collaboration and Innovation aimed to generate more revenue, suppress smuggling activities and enhance trade facilitation, the Nigeria Customs Service Kano/Jigawa Area Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking with the interception of 74,790 tablets of 250mg of Tramadol Hydrochloride.

This information was contained in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Saidu Nuruddeen, and made available to GLOBAL RAYS Media.

The statement reads in part:  “The seizures have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).”

In his remarks, the Customs Area Controller, CAC. Compt. Dauda Chana, said,  “The Tramadol tablets, a controlled substance frequently misused in Nigeria, were formally handed over during a ceremony attended by top officials from both agencies. The seizure marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat the trafficking of illicit drugs in the region.”

He added,  “The importance of continued collaboration between security agencies in tackling the menace of drug trafficking cannot be overemphasized.”

However, the CAC pointed out that the volume of the seized drugs posed a serious threat to national security and public health.

In his response at the handing over ceremony, Abubakar Ahmad, Commander of Narcotics NDLEA for Kano State, praised the NCS for their professionalism and vigilance.

His words:  “I commend the officers and men involved for their courage and incorruptibility and  such actions are critical in the fight against drug smuggling.”

Ahmad  added,  “The operation highlights the growing partnership between the NCS and NDLEA, as both agencies remain committed to ridding the country of illegal drugs.”
