In compliance with the three point agenda of the Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali, the Customs Area Controller, Murtala Mohammed Airport Command, MMA, Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Mohammed Sanni Yusuf, has said, “The core mandate of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling and trade facilitation at the Airport in the first quarter of year 2023 is a great achievement of his Command.”
Comptroller Yusuf, disclosed this information at a media briefing in Ikeja, “The command generated a total sum of Twenty-one Billion, Three Hundred and Sixty-two Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy-Six Naira, Forty-Four Koko ₦21,362,752,676.44) as revenue in the period under review.”
Compt. Yusuf, asserted, “In the corresponding period of 2022, the Command generated Seventeen Billion, Five Hundred and Thirteen Million, Four Hundred and Fifty-Seven Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty-Nine Naira Twenty Kobo. (₦17,513,457,869. 20k). This shows a progressive difference of the sum of Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty-Nine Million, Two Hundred and Ninety-Four Thousand, Eight Hundred and Seven Naira, Twenty-Two Kobo (₦3,849,294,807.22) depicting a 21.97% increase.”
Adding, “It is worthy to note that the revenue activities of the Command comprise importation and exportation of legitimate goods, goods under the ECOWAS Trade Liberalization Scheme (ETLS)”
In the area of smuggling suppression, Comptroller Yusuf, posited, “The Command recorded a total seizure of Twenty-Three (23) packages of pharmaceutical products. These seized items include twenty-two (22) packages of Tramadol (225mg), Twelve (12) packages of Tramadol (120mg) Tablets In the same vein, the Tramadol Tablets in our custody has been scheduled for handing over to the Commander of Narcotics, Murtala Muhammed Airport Command of National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during this press briefing in the spirit of inter-departmental cooperation.”
Hiswords: “This will further strengthen our collaboration in safeguarding our youths from the use of harmful substance which could endanger their lives and the environments. We shall intensify more efforts in making our communities a safer place for all of us to live.”
Speaking further, Compt. Yusuf, opined, “The above seizures were recorded based on intelligence driven operations within the Airport. The total Duty Payable Value (DPV) of the seizures stood at One Billion, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Two Million, Three Hundred and Fifty-Two Thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirty-Two Naira, Twenty-Six Kobo (1,792,352,832.26k).”
