In a bid to sustain the drive towards green revolution aimed to boost the ecosystem and human economic development, the President, Rotary Club, Port Harcourt, G.R.A, Chief Ifeanyi Isikaku, has said, “Tree planting for economic and community development is needful.”
He made this assertion at the Tree planting project of Rotary Club Port Harcourt, held at Holy Rosary College Port Harcourt.
Isikaku added, “In Rotary six areas of focus the month of Tree planting is August and we do it necessarily where schools are not in session aimed to give the students time and opportunity to nurture these trees to full blown stage”.
He continued, “Over time we discovered that when we plant trees people will go and uproot it, thus, we decided to do it in an enclosed place to ascertain existence and security.”
Adding, “The importance of tree planting cannot be overemphasized because it provides energy and serene environment for habitation.”
Isikaku affirmed that Rotary Club Port Harcourt have been planting trees for the past three years as part of their social responsibility towards community and rural development in line with the tents of Rotary.
He asserted, “We are talking of climate change and no nation or community can attain sustainable climate condition without planting tree.”
Reacting on partnership with government, Isikaku, posited, “Rotary club is a group of action committed individuals to serve humanity with emphasized on some key projects among which is tree planting and the man hours devoted if evaluated will amount to over N5000 naira.”
In his remarks, the Assistant Governor of Rotary club, Temple Onyekwelu, said, “Today’s tree planting is part of the six areas of focus earn marked by Rotary club aimed to be achieved.” He continued, “We have seen the need and importance to plant trees; they create good, serene and conducive environment where people can relax, read and interactive with one another.”
He added “Tree planting is capable are enhancing and protecting the environment in line with the drive for green revolution agenda.”
