MARITIME WORKERS SHUT DOWN PORTS OPERATIONS NATIONWIDE

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has shut down ports operations nationwide sequel to a 14 days ultimatum issued over failure of International oil companies non payment of entitlements due to maritime workers.

Reacting in an exclusive chat with GLOBAL RAYS online the Deputy National President of Maritime workers Union of Nigeria, Comrade Douglas James  Eromobor, said ,” The action is in furtherance to the union 14 days ultimatum notice to drive home our demands for payment of entitlements due to maritime workers, ” Adding, “The union has been taken for granted by most of these international oil companies and if left unattended to might lead to huge labour crisis in Nigeria. ”

In his remarks exclusively to GLOBAL RAYS online, the national executive official of the Union in Port Harcourt ,Comrade Waite Harry, has said, ” The strike is on going and Ports operations are grinded in compliance with  the national directives of the National executive of the union. ”

He asserted that, ” The union has suffered enough in the hands of International oil companies operating in Nigeria without checks and balances on the operations and compliance of these companies in line with International Labour Laws and Conventions.”

Waite condemned the continued failure to pay entitlements due maritime workers and called on government all levels to look at the activities of International oil companies in Nigeria to avert labour crisis.
