The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the purchase of new scanners for examination of cargoes at the Nigerian Ports aimed to fast track seamless cargo clearance in line with international standards .
This information was disclosed by the Customs Area Controller, Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service ,Compt. Bashir Abubakar.
He made this known during honouring some officers and Men of the command for their diligence in the discharge of their duties.
He stated that efforts put towards securing the scanners have been yielding results.
His words : ” I want you to understand one thing, operations in the ports are multidimentional.The issue of security of the nation cannot be toyed with. We are talking to different government functionaries to get us scanners. ”
Adding ,’ Right now, the service is doing it’s best. I am happy the government has approved the purchase of new scanners to major customs commands. ”
In appraisal of the command last year performance, Abubakar opined that the command generated N404 billion as revenue in 2018, as an increase of N53 billion from the 2017 figure.
