Ikoyi Gate: 51 Bullet Proof Vehicles seized

In its commitment and resolve to suppress smuggling and duty paid value compliance, Operatives of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have evacuated 51 luxury bullet proof SUVs from a hidden house in Ikoyi, Lagos.

 

The operations were carried out based on intelligence report, but nobody has shown up to claim ownership of the items.

In his remarks, Customs Area Controller, FOU Zone A,  Comptroller Uba Garba Mohammed, said, “other similar vehicles were also seized from various car parks around Lagos.”

His words: “Our operatives trailed and evacuated 51 assorted vehicles from an Ikoyi  residence among which include 40 units of 2017 models ranging from Toyota Prado Jeeps, Lexus Jeeps, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Camry, Coaster Bus, Toyota Hiace Buses among others and are currently under detention awaiting relevant customs documents from the dealers within a grace of one month.”

Adding, “Some are even bullet proof which require End User Certificates from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).”

“We removed these (Bullet Proof) vehicles from a hidden house in Ikoyi while others were gotten from a car park in FESTAC.”

In the same vein, the Unit made other seizures ranging from used tyres, bales of second hand clothing, frozen poultry products and vegetable oil.

Others are 6,206 50kg of bags of parboiled foreign rice, Indian Hemp and two dry containers carrying different items.

The Controller stated that the unit through interventions recovered N144,433,524 from duty payments and demand notices on general goods that tried to circumvent the law at seaports, airports and border stations through wrong declaration, transfer of value, underpayment of duty accruable to the federal government within the weeks under review.

Six suspects have been arrested relating to the 120 seizures.
